The Federal Budget and Budget Forecasting
The President & the Congress spend a lot of time considering how much to spend based on future projections of tax revenues. To me, that is simply a dumb way to do things. You'll never be able to accurately guess future revenues. But you can easily determine what past revenues are and base spending on those numbers. Isn't that the way you do it with your home budget? That is, save first, spend later. Only corrupt politicians do it the other way around.
The government should be limited in its "next year's spending" based on a percentage of what it received in a prior year. Perhaps, that could be set at 95% of what was collected the prior year. The other 5% would be required to pay down any federal debt or put aside for future unfunded obligations.
Its time that honest politicians put pressure on corrupt politicians to permanently fix the federal budget deficits problem. The solution is clear and simple. Fighting political corruption is the only thing that makes it difficult.
